Dr Rebecca Jarvis

Appointment Availability: Mon am & pm,, Wed am & pm, Thurs am & pm Dr Jarvis studied medicine at Nottingham University and has been a GP partner at St Peters Medical Centre since 1995. She currently works three days a week at St Peters, and one day a week at Brighton and Hove Clinical Commissioning Group as Clinical lead for Mental Health, Maternity and Children’s services. Outside work I have two teenage children, love travelling and try to keep vaguely fit with Pilates and running.

Appointment Availability: Tues pm, Wed am, Thur am, Fri pm I joined St Peter’s Surgery in 1986 as a trainee and became a partner in 1987 having trained at Kings College Hospital in London. I later became a trainer of GP’s and took an interest in the running of local health care being elected Chair of Brighton and Hove Clinical Commission Group (CCG) in 2012. My main clinical interests are around children and family medicine and the relationship between mental and physical wellbeing. I am also interested in how teams work best together and the development of learning within the workplace. I stepped away from the role of Senior Partner and Chair in October 2016 but continue to work on a part time basis as a salaried GP in the practice. I continue to enjoy seeing patients and all the wonderful aspects of general practice and see the future as positive despite the pressures on our precious NHS. As long as we are all prepared to fight for it, it will survive and thrive.

Appointment Availability: Mon am Tues am, Thurs am, Fri am (alternate weeks) Rita qualified as a doctor in 1991 at University College London and worked in Australia for six months after her registration. After travelling around the world for a year she settled in Brighton in 1994 and became a fully qualified GP in September 1995. She has worked part-time in various local practices before coming to St Peter's in 2014 .

In practice, this requires us to focus on preventive care; make sure the tests and interventions we offer are of high value, making the best use of scarce resources and reducing waste; focus on a healthy environment; and work to build a resilient community. Personal profile: in her spare time, Rachel enjoys cycling and reading.

Nurse Practitioners

Jane Black

Appointment Availability: Tues am & pm,,Wed am & pm, Thurs am & pm, Fri am & pm Jane previously worked in a busy inner-city practice in London. She has a wide range of specials interests which include sexual health and contraception, the health of health professionals, mental health and substance misuse. She is a nurse prescriber and, like a GP, can offer treatment and advice for acute illnesses. She also manages patients who are on disease registers for mental health, CVD, hypertension, HIV management, family planning, COPD and asthma.

Eileen Brencher

Appointment Availability: Mon am & pm, Tues am & pm, Thurs am & pm I qualified as a RGN in London in 1980 and spent the first 10 years of my career as a sister in A&E before moving into general practice in 1990. I joined St Peters Medical Centre in 1997 and became a Nurse Partner at in 2008. I have always been interested in promoting general practice and in the running of the local health care services. I have a special interest in developing nursing and am a nurse trainer for post graduate nurses. I work as a generalist with a special interest in Family Planning, Sexual Health, Asthma, Young People and Health Promotion. I am the safeguarding lead for St Peters Surgery. I love working in General Practice providing continuity of care and developing relationships with patients. I am currently involved in developing a GP Federation for Brighton and Hove to help ensure survival of general practice in the future.

Appointment Availability: Mon am & pm, Tues am & pm, Wed am & pm, Fri am & pm Vicky qualified as a Registered General Nurse from Kings College Hospital, London in 1988 and following a year in general medicine, worked abroad in France and Austria for 2 years. She has additional qualifications in Family Planning, Care of the Elderly, Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease management. Returning to the UK Vicky worked at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, before becoming a Practice Nurse in 1992. Undertaking training alongside the Lead Practice Nurse role, Vicky qualified as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and also joined the St Peter’s team in 2015.

After many years of working in primary care locally as a manager I joined the St Peter’s team as their business manager in June 2016. I am thrilled to be working with such a positive, forward-looking team to provide services for our diverse practice population. I have always been passionate about primary care and look positively towards the future. My particular interests are transformational change and team development. I became a partner at St Peter’s in August 2017 and one of my main roles is to ensure that the business is financially sound and that the practice runs smoothly. I am always looking for opportunities which help improve patient care and the business. I work closely with the partners, the clinical team and management teams whilst always engaging with all our support staff. I am very involved in the management of our local Primary Care Network

Patient Care Advisors

Kate, Siobhan, Kim, Beth, Holly, Lynn, Cassie, Jane and Roxy are the people you speak to first either over the phone or face to face. They deal with your enquiries and provide an important role in signposting patients to the most appropriate clinician or service. They are highly trained and respect all our patients’ needs.

I joined St Peters on a full-time basis in April 2020 as a clinical pharmacist and Independent Prescriber, having first registered as a pharmacist in 1998. I worked at another surgery in Brighton, part-time, before this. My background has been in both community pharmacy and academia for many years, and I continue to work part-time as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Sussex, educating pharmacy, medical and other healthcare students. As a prescriber my areas of interest are Ears, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Respiratory medicine. I conduct medication reviews and am happy to help patients better understand their medicines. I will liaise with prescribers in the practice to ensure the safe prescribing of medication.

Community Midwifery Services

What we do - Community midwives provide antenatal and postnatal care in children’s centres and GP practices. We also run an award winning homebirth service. Community midwives assess the health of both mother and baby, plan care in conjunction with you, and carry out all appointments for low risk maternity care. We provide a link to hospital services and provide valuable support and education to all pregnant women throughout pregnancy and in the first days after birth. Alcohol Liaison Nurse

Sandy Holder is our Alcohol Liaison Nurse and was born and grew up in Brighton. She qualified as a Registered General Nurse and Registered Midwife in 1992 and 1996 respectively. In 2005 she qualified as a Mental Health Nurse. Since 1998 she has worked in the addictions field both in the statutory and voluntary sector. She has enjoyed a variety of different positions including Drug Liaison Midwife locally at a women’s drug project and continued working with families as a Maternal Health Liaison Nurse at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London. For the last eight years she has been working as an Alcohol Liaison Nurse at the Royal Sussex County Hospital here in Brighton and more recently at St George’s in London. She works for all seven practices in our local Cluster.
