Personal Independence Payments

Applicants for Personal Independence payments are required to complete a fairly lengthy form and provide ‘any relevant evidence of information you already have that explains your circumstances.’ Examples of the ‘evidence’ you may already have include prescription lists, GP reports etc.

The application form makes it clear that the applicant already has to possess the evidence; however, this has been interpreted by some patients as meaning that a medical report has to be obtained from their doctor and sent with their application.

The applicant has to provide contact details of their GP and, if additional information is required, the assessment providers will contact the GP to seek a factual report. There is, therefore, no need for your GP to provide any information at the time of your application as they will be contacted only if deemed necessary.
